Thomas Huber is an MSc Financial Management student who recently not only participated but led in the planning of a trek to London, partially supported by funding from the Business School’s Santander initiative.

Safe and sound, all FM Trek attending students just came back from London. We took away some amazing insight into the investment banking industry through an incredibly well organised company visit at Jefferies, where we got to know around 25 people from every level of seniority – whether intern, associate, managing director or VP.

We had a great time not only listening to their nominated speakers but also during the hour that we had during the speed networking session together with representatives of five of Jefferies’ divisions. They were extremely engaged and interested in the students coming to see and listen to them and I’m very happy that they showed particular interest in three of the students afterwards.

A guided tour specifically for finance students and a visit to the Bank of England were very informative. I received some very good feedback especially about the guided tour. The relief over a lost and found laptop of one person and a wallet of a second is only one great memory we now all share together. We experienced how working and living in London may feel like, saw the Duke of Edinburgh’s retirement ceremony, had great fun and spent some quality time together – a greatly appreciated change of scene after two months work on our dissertations that brought us all closer together.

On behalf of all students, I’d like to say thank you to everyone involved – whether it be in planning and organising, facilitating or supporting – we are extremely grateful for every contribution that made this trip possible.
