Here in the Student Development Team we’re always looking at new ways to improve the way in which we engage with our students and with the outside world.

Listening to your feedback, and looking into best practice across other top business schools, we’ve decided to introduce a series of Career Lounges over the remainder of Semester One and throughout Semester Two. I was recently reading a careers blog by an Oxford University advisor who highlighted the successful use of Career Lounges (or Career Meetups) in places like Berkeley and Stanford, and how Oxford Uni are beginning to use these too.

Career Lounges are aimed at providing you with the opportunity to take part in small, focused discussions with other students, members of the Student Development team and industry practitioners, around specific industry themes or career-related questions. We know that providing you with access to more tailored professional development opportunities is important to you, and had already been toying with the idea of smaller group sessions, to supplement the larger classroom sessions and one to ones. Career Lounges seem to fit the bill pretty well.

These events will be promoted on our events feed via Learn and the Professional Development site, and will be on a first come, first served registration basis for groups of 8–15 students. Career Lounges are meant to encourage active participation and interaction from attendees; so if you sign up, be prepared to engage in and contribute to the discussions. More info on the first lounges to follow shortly...Oh, and we’ll provide the coffee.
