Students took part in a full day of presentations and workshops delivered by no other than the most prominent organisations involved in the transition to a low carbon economy in the UK and globally. These included the UK GIB, the European Investment Bank, ING, Bloomberg New Energy Finance, Thornton and the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency.
The event was a perfect opportunity for us students to meet and network with industry professionals, build up our knowledge in the field, get an insight of where the low carbon energy sector is headed and how we could contribute as professionals in this growing and exciting area.
The day started off with presentations from Shaun Kingsbury, UK GIB CEO, and the Rt Hon Lord Smith of Kelvin, UK GIB Chairman, who presented on the achievements of the Green Investment Bank and on Edinburgh’s profile as a global hub for low carbon investing. Further presentations on the day from well known industry professionals tackled themes such as sustainable finance, sustainable cities and low carbon investment challenges, which are also at the core of the MSc in Carbon Finance curricula.
Having the opportunity to test our ideas, brainstorm along and network with leading industry professionals in the field we all aspire to work in the future has been invaluable. All in all, a great event!
