How Can the Alumni Team Help Me?
In addition to your personal networking, the Alumni Team can run searches on the alumni database to help you answer any specific questions that you have. To request a search, simply fill in the Alumni Contact Request Form. Please be patient with these requests and realistic in what you ask for.
How Can I Network with Alumni?
Events
Keep an eye on the Business School events programme and attend events where alumni will be.
- Create and actively manage your LinkedIn profile
- Join the Business School Alumni/Students LinkedIn group and begin making connections with alumni that you have something in common with:

- We also have a number of subject-specific groups which you are welcome to join
- Use the LinkedIn group to share information, provoke discussion, and raise your profile among the alumni community
Building Relationships
- Be selective in identifying the organisation(s) and alumni you want to build relationships with
- Be courteous and professional when you approach potential contacts and be realistic in what you ask them for
- Remember: alumni are busy people and may not be able to respond immediately
What Not To Do
- Do not ask alumni for jobs or internships; networking is about building relationships and trust
- Do not demand too much from alumni in terms of help or amount of contact
Data Protection Act
Due to the Data Protection Act, we are unable to pass on the names or contact details of alumni without their consent. Once we receive your Alumni Contact Request, we contact the alumni on your behalf and seek their permission to pass on their details to you. This ensures that we are passing on details for alumni who have agreed to help. It is then up to you to develop the networking relationship.
How Are Alumni Involved in the Business School?
Business School alumni are engaged in Business School activities in a range of different ways:
- Providing advice and practitioner insight as guest speakers
- Hosting projects for dissertation and group project research
- Passing on internship and employment opportunities which are advertised to students
- Hosting company visits during student treks
- Providing one-to-one advice via our Alumni Matching service
- Attending a range of networking events
